Finally - a comfy bed and hot shower...

Tonight we checked in to Zion's western cabins for two nights. It feels so good to have a hot shower and a comfy bed.

Getting up early tomorrow to try the Narrows hike. Thundershowers forecast for afternoon, so we probably wont be able to go as far as we like. Ill be very happy with whatever we get to see.

Hope to do Weeping Rock tomorrow afternoon, no slot canyons there and if it rains it'll be all the more beautiful.

Saturday we head back south to the Kaibab Lodge at the north rim of the grand canyon for two nights, then up to camp at Bryce for two nights. After that, over to Panquitch Lake, Cedar Breaks, overnight in Cedar City then one final night on the south strip in Vegas. Then jet back to Nashville for a couple days.

I think I'm done for this day...

I think it's all good. I think I've bought everything I need to carry. We will go shopping for things we cannot fly with once we get to vegas. I hope I can unload that stuff once we get back to vegas. I think I'll post ads for some of the items on Craigslist and backpage. I will use it for a week then sell it for half off. That's the plan anyway.

I'm tired and have to get up early again tomorrow. I have a lot to do this weekend. In the morning, bright and early I'm taking a truck load of holiday decor samples to a big yard sale. I hope I cn unload one of these things, I need the pace and the cash will come in handy next week.

Goodnight, I think I'm done for this day.

Breaking out the big suitcases...

Doing more packing today. it seems so unreal that its almost time. I think I've bought everything I need to get, except a new battery charger for my camera. I am so grateful that Southwest Airlines lets us check two bags for free. I bought a new 29" Samsonite Polycarbonate hard-shell suitcase. It seems so light and thin, but the reviews (and my Tim) assured me that the polycarbonate material is very strong. Ill also take my old, big suitcase. It's soft sided and pretty ratty, but I think it'll last a couple more trips. I did buy a locking strap for it. Seems like I remember the zipper failed once, but I fixed it.

I can't wait to get back to Las Vegas. I've only been once this year. I found some interesting things to see this trip. I'm taking D to a restaurant right off downtownSunday night. Looks very interesting, with a genuine vintage vegas vibe. It's called the Triple George Grill. . I can't believe I never knew it was there. Ill be reviewing it for this and a couple other blogs, so stop back in in early September for the lowdown on Triple George's.

I think I've decided to draft an ebook of this trip. I've been buying others' books and found them interesting. I know a little bout the area. I know some things I can share.

Hike Camp and Paint...Utah.

My friend Dawn and I are trying to raise a little extra money to help subsidize a canyon hiking, camping, photography, plein air painting and birthday celebrating venture to the red rocks and canyons of southern utah.

We chose September of this year to include Dawn's birthday as part of our adventure, to both mark off a few things on the old bucket list.

First, we'll fly into Las Vegas NV and spend a couple days there to celebrate Dawn's birthday. Our hope to is take in a Cirque du Soliel performance if we can raise enough $$. That would be an awesome birthday present!!

We plan to camp a few nights to save money. I am especially looking forward to camping at Cedar Breaks, which is one of the darkest places in the country. We'll be there during the new moon in early September. I've read one can get fabulous Milky Way photos there.

After Vegas we'll drive north to Zion National Park, where I plan to do some sketching and plein air painting of the beautiful canyon and Virgin River. Next is south to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, where I again plan to spend time sketching and painting canyon views. Then back north to Bryce to camp in the hoodoos, then west to Cedar Breaks National monument along the scenic highways of southern Utah. We'll finish up camping at Kolob, then drive back to Vegas to catch a flight to Nashville, TN.

I hope you will consider joining with us on this. It is a once in a lifetime for us and we've been planning and looking forward to it for a year now.

I've listed a few rewards I can offer for your generous gifts. I've also included an option to donate $ for Dawn's Birthday dinner and Cirque du Soliel show in Las Vegas. I think everyone who visits Vegas needs to see at least one of them. I hope we can make this happen.

thank you thank you!!!

Still love Vegas.

Been about exactly one year since I dropped in to my playground. I've missed it so much. I'm thinking I'd love to live out here. How can I make that happen?

Indie South year round...

Indie South Fair is branching out into mini-events that will take place throughout the year. We want to give artists a chance to market their wares year round, not just during peak sales seasons. These events will be smaller-scale, which means less work for us and more affordable for artists!
